Glossary
Single-chip LSI
A single chip that incorporates many of the circuits that were formerly implemented as separate devices or the technology used to make such a chip. The single-chip LSIs in mobile phones incorporate the processing system (CPU, memory, etc.), the wireless system (modem, amplifier, etc.) and peripheral systems (LCD controller and voice input/output) to reduce power consumption and simplify the circuitry. DOCOMO, in joint development with Renesas Technology, Fujitsu, Mitsubishi Electric and Sharp, plans to develop a mobile phone platform that integrates the baseband chip that controls communication and the application chip that controls the user interface into a single chip and also integrates the basic software group that includes the OS, the middleware and the hardware drivers by 2Q of FY2007.
