Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution. A third-generation mobile phone (3G) technology that offers a maximum speed of 384 kbps. A successor to GPRS technology that is used mainly in Europe, and services based on the technology are mainly offered by the European and North American operators that have been providing GPRS services.
